Are you a WordPress dummy?
What do Emerald Legassi celebrity chef, Curt Schilling of the Boston Red Sox, Richard Branson of Virgin mega Corporation, and the Wall Street Journal Magazine all have in common? Well you probably don’t know this but they all use WordPress for their blog.
And they didn’t choose it because it’s the most expensive blogging platform you can get. No. In fact, WordPress is not only the world’s most popular blogging software, it’s also free!
Now if you happen to be late, (and I mean really late) to this blogging thing then you still might be asking yourself, – What is WordPress? Well here is the basic WordPress for dummies explanation: WordPress is an open source software application designed to allow non-technical users to create and update their own blog.
In fact, way back in about 2003 that is essentially what it was. However WordPress has become so much more than that now since it is really considered a full content management system (CMS) that isn’t only just used for blogs, but for full professional websites as well. For a lot of Internet marketers, WordPress is the go-to platform for getting started. That’s because it is perfectly suited for the ” WordPress for dummies” types! Don’t worry I am WordPress dummy too, which is exactly why I use – WordPress!
One of the reasons WordPress is so good and so popular and so easy to work with, is that thing we already mentioned, it’s called open source. Open source is a phrase used to describe people who like to program software for their own enjoyment, working as a community one one thing – make WordPress better and better all the time.
And yeah, they do it all for free.
The other reason why WordPress is so good for beginners is because you don’t need to know any HTML or CSS programming knowledge to run your own website when you use WordPress. The installation is more or less pointing and clicking your way to a full-fledged blog/website. You can have your own website up and running in minutes basically allowing you to blog about virtually any subject that interests you or your readers.
Now even though WordPress is free to use, that doesn’t mean having a WordPress site isn’t going to cost you money. If you want your own domain name you have to pay for that from a company like GoDaddy. You’ll also probably want to host the site yourself so you’ll have to pay for a hosting service. Both of those costs are no more than couple Vanilla Lattes from Starbucks, but you could end up spending a bit more if you want one of the thousands and thousands of WordPress themes. A WordPress theme can be installed on your WordPress blog and change the layout and characteristics of your blog in a matter of seconds. If you want to have a look at a few these, then just do a quick search on the Internet for WordPress themes and you’ll see what I mean by the wide variety available. It’s an industry unto itself.
One other thing. Google loves WordPress and that means the content that you put on your WordPress blog is easily crawled and catalogued by Google’s software, allowing for quicker indexing of your pages so that they show up in search results faster. So even if you still feel like you are in the WordPress for Dummies category, the best way to get over that hurdle is to go to WordPress Training Center and set up your own free blog to see how easy it is.
Have a great day!
